A: You will need the following:
- Your bill of sale.
- Valid insurance.
- Your driver's license.
Note, if the bill of sale is in more than one person's name you will either need both parties to be present or bring a completed vehicle authorization registration form.
A: You may use one of the following documents:
- A major bill in your name (electricity, cable, water etc.) dated within the last 90 days.
- A paystub.
- A bank statement (mailed to you).
- A credit card statement (mailed to you).
- A cell phone bill (mailed to you).
- A lease agreement.
- Written confirmation from an employer with their contact name and phone number issued within the last 15 days.
- Written confirmation from an educational institute indicating you are a full-time student.
- Copy of Land title.
- A written statement from Alberta Hutterite colony stating your residency in the colony.

A: Traditionally, class 6 road tests are offered from when roads are cleared (about April each year) to about the end of September. Please call to confirm.
A: Alberta has moved to a sticker-free licence plate. You still need to ensure your vehicle is registered on time, but you will not be receiving stickers for the month/year anymore. You can sign up for electron renewal reminders here .
A: It is a personal choice, you are not required to remove them, but you can if you would like. Or you can get a new plate at the time of renewal that is sticker-free for no extra charge.
A: There is a reflective coating on the new plates that gets picked up by the headlights compared to the old ones.
A: No you do not, however, it is first come first serve. Tests are available during the following hours:
- 9 AM - 5 PM Monday - Friday.
- 9 AM - 2 PM Saturday.
Don't forget to bring proof of residency and legal entitlement with you (passports, birth certificate, or work/study permits etc.). Minors require a parent to be present.

A: You require your proof of an appropriate written test. For example, you can’t use a class 5 written test to take your class 6 road test.
A: You are required to provide both your class 4 written test and a doctor’s medical assessment.
A: Yes, you can book your road test either in-person or online here. Please note, we will not accept bookings over the phone.
A: Yes, however, at least 48 hours notice is required. If you need to cancel your road test, you must speak directly to a clerk, you can not leave an email or voicemail. If you cancel within 48 hours, you will receive a full refund. A refund can only be issued in-person.
A: The price varies from location to location. For Registry West, the prices as of April 16th, 2021 are:
- Basic class 5: $90.
- Advanced Class 5: $150.
- Motorcycle Class 6: $150.
- Class 4: $150.
A: We are not notary publics, we are commissioners for the province of Alberta only.
A: Yes we do.
A: You will need to provide the following information:
- Proof of Alberta residency.
- Proof you have had your full license for more than two years, otherwise, you may be put into the GDL program.
- If you have a class 1 or 4 license from another province, you may require a medical.
- If you are 75+ you will require a medical.
- If you have a medical condition that affects your driving, you will require a medical.
A: It depends on how old the vehicle is and what province it is coming from. If the vehicle is coming in from BC, Saskatchewan, or Manitoba, and it is 4 years old or newer (current model year, plus previous 3 model years), you may be able to get your vehicle exempt from undergoing the inspection. You will need to bring your vehicle to the registry so we can determine it is the right vehicle and fill out the appropriate paperwork. If your vehicle is older than 4 years, or from one of the other provinces or territories, you will need to conduct an out-of-province inspection.
A: Yes, we do. You will need to have valid insurance in order for the permit to be issued.
A: Depending on what it is being used for. Between 3 and 7 days. Please note these permits will not allow you into the United States.

A: Yes, we do, they must be requested through our office. They will usually arrive within 7 - 14 business days.
A: No, you may not. You can order customized plates, however, the specialty plates (support our troops, Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers) can not be customized.
A: The cost to register your vehicle includes both the paperwork required to register your vehicle and your plates. This means that if you want to get new plates, it is easiest to do so (and will not incur an additional cost) when you are registering or renewing your vehicle.
