Married Last Name in Alberta
It is not a legal requirement to change your last name after getting married, but in most cases one spouse will take the last name of the other spouse or will combine their last name with their spouse’s last name. In Alberta when a person gets married and chooses to take the last name of their spouse, Alberta Vital Statistics does not consider this to be a legal change of name. When a couple gets married in Alberta, Vital Statistics will not change the person’s birth record to reflect their newly assumed last name. If a person chooses to take the last name of their spouse, it is recommended that all their personal identification should reflect their new last name.To update all your personal indentification, meet with a registry agent.
